A Face in the Crowd

shinjkugirl.jpg

The photo is of a teenage girl awaiting her friends at Shinjuku station in February of 2003. Incidentally, Shinjuku station is the busiest on the Yamanote Loop with 3,461,302 people passing through everyday. Of these 1,490,306 are using JR trains, which includes the Yamanote, the Chuo, the Saikyo and Sobu train lines.

Wow, this is one fantasic shot. She's looking very mysterious somehow. The contrast between the moving people and her just standing there is great!

(;_;) Another stupid and simplistic interpretation of statistics meant to impress us

"3,461,302 people"

Really!? Not one person more or one person less? Do JR rush a replacement passenger if one of the 3,461,302 people gets sick and can't come that day?
