Backgrounds and Fishes
I am experimenting with background images. Really, I just need to create a post here so I have two vertically adjacent links on the calendar. (Damn calendar, pain in my ass.)

More browser lameness
IE 5.5 sp2 PC. Does not render. I am not fixing it. Get a better browser.

futility
Something has broken the way things render in IE 6. Commenting out the changes I made has not solved this issue. I am disgusted.
Too much by far...
When the options are infinite, there are quite a lot of options. I have been at this for a really long time and come up with two nearly identical layouts. What do you do when anything is possible? I have no idea what I want. Someone with some sense of design asthetic needs to step in here. I am going to bed.

I am triumphant!
One small step for... oh, whatever. You are now looking at three glorious columns. They even render properly in most browsers, and if you think that was easy then you haven't been paying attention.
If the things in the left hand column, most notably the calendar, do not look quite right then you are probably scaling your fonts and I firmly declare it to be your problem.
Entropy Increases
I am attempting to get deeper into CSS. Task the first: code by hand the main page into a 3 column layout. Expect trouble.
Dan, I don't know if you have realized yet... Everything you know is wrong. We do not have a situation where style components can be used to build on existing skills so much as one where every aspect of web page layout as we understood it (from tables to <hr>) is entirely obsolete.
Big fun.
The web browsers suck.
A simple html form with a few style elements renders differently in every browser I have looked at it with so far. There is no excuse for this. Bah.

It occurs to me there is a stylistic question that needs to be answered here... well, ultimately there are a shitload, but here is this one. What should be the reasonable upper limit for the length of text in this space? How long is too long before considerations of browseability dictate that it be rolled over to "extended entry"? Huh?

Further Testing
The idea here is to fill in some shit on the left so that the stuff over there on the right actually appears over there on the right in browsers that do not otherwise seem to be correctly rendering the float property. We'll see...
